Principal

Established in 1984, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC) is the second commerce college of the University of Delhi. Named after the Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the College was established under the aegis of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), a statutory body constituted under an Act of Parliament. Inspired by the teachings of the Sikh Gurus and its motto “Behold All Human Race as One”, the College seeks to nurture individuals who are intellectually competent, ethically grounded, and committed to contributing meaningfully to society.

The College offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across disciplines, including commerce, economics, management studies, business economics, computer science, and Punjabi, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in a fast-changing world.

From its modest beginnings in temporary barracks with 129 students and six faculty members, the College has grown into one of the leading institutions of higher education in the country. Today, it is home to more than 2,500 students and a dedicated faculty engaged in teaching, research, mentoring, and academic administration. The contributions of generations of students, faculty members, alumni, management, and staff have collectively shaped the growth, achievements, and reputation of the College.

The College provides an environment that supports both academic and personal development. Its infrastructure includes smart classrooms, computer laboratories, a well-equipped library, seminar and conference facilities, an auditorium, sports facilities, a gymnasium, and a shooting range. Accessibility features such as ramps and lifts across the campus ensure ease of access for all. The Mata Sahib Kaur Girls’ Hostel provides residential facilities for outstation students. The campus has more than 40 student societies and clubs that provide opportunities for leadership, creativity, innovation, cultural enrichment, and community engagement. The campus also houses Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara Sahib, where students, faculty and staff come together to uphold values of seva, inclusivity, and community service.

Over the years, the College has strengthened opportunities for learning beyond the classroom through initiatives such as the Centre of Excellence (CoE), Centre for Professional Development (CPD), and Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Acceleration (CIIA-NEST). These centres provide students with opportunities for skill development, professional certifications, research, industry interaction, internships, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning. The Placement Cell further supports students in their transition from higher education to professional careers.

Research and academic engagement form an important part of the College’s academic culture. Faculty members contribute through research publications, consultancy assignments, and participation in academic and policy discussions. The College regularly organises conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programmes. It also supports research projects and publishes its peer-reviewed, ABDC indexed journal, Journal of Business Thought.

The College remains committed to environmental responsibility through measures such as solar energy generation, water conservation, and green campus initiatives. Supported by a strong academic framework, quality assurance practices, and the effective use of technology in teaching and administration, the College has earned NAAC A++ accreditation and secured a place among the leading colleges in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). While pursuing excellence in education, the College continues to uphold its founding values of service, inclusivity, ethical conduct, and social responsibility.
